| Job Description |
| Switching Operations:
§ Carry out operations – isolating and tagging – Medium Voltage (MV) equipment for maintenance work as instructed by Foreman. Includes disconnecting, discharging, spiking and reconnecting cables as be required.
§ Switch power – on and off – to designated Low Voltage (LV) customers to install new power connections and or make needed repairs.
§ Filled out notices to customers regarding power outage and switching off power for any reason and post them as designated.
Restore power to affected area following completion of work.
Emergency Response:
Respond to (LV) customer complaints, issues and problems, trouble shoot to pin point and determine cause(s) of problem and take corrective action as needed. May include switching off power to the affected location, repair or replace such items as breakers, referring to metering to check and repair/replace the meter, etc.
Emergency Response (continued):
§ Respond to (MV) network breakdowns along with Foreman to trouble shoot and pin point cause of problem and take necessary corrective action. Includes conducting Megger testing, visual inspection for flashovers, etc. If fault is reported after working hours and the Operator is on-call alone without higher level of supervision will report incident to the Control Centre Room to coordinate required maintenance work.
Coordinate with the Fire and Safety department of the Royal Commission in fire emergency situations to switch power on and off as and when required to affected locations.
Emergency Response:
Respond immediately to emergencies, including fires, to mitigate and rescue Plant equipment and/or personnel during emergency situations.
Regular Inspection:
§ Carry out visual inspection on equipment for leaks – oil - , dust and dirt accumulation on equipment, abnormal sounds, broken doors, portals or pad locks, condition of paint, condition of foundation, ID tags, clean around the equipment, measure (LV) output to ensure it is at the correct level, etc. and take corrective action as may be possible and report major cases.
Update list of customers feeding from specific transformers in designated areas as well as records of equipment data in that area.
Support Activities:
§ Provide access to transformers and related equipment to contractors and other T&D sections to check and or make power connections.
§ Coordinate and liaise with contractors on cable locations for carrying out excavation work and process excavation permits as required.
Coordinate with Customer Service to disconnect and or restore power to customers for ‘no-pay’ or other valid reasons.

Follow all relevant operational procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
Safety, Quality & Environment:
Follow all relevant safety, quality and environmental control procedures and instructions so that personal safety/the safety of others is not jeopardised and a minimum level of product/service quality and environmental impact can be guaranteed. |
