Minimum Qualification

GEOLOGIST

The geologist should have a minimum of 15 years of experience, including substantial involvement with high rock cuts and stabilization of them.

 The geologist should be observing all cuttings and recommending appropriate slope configurations and stabilizing measures.  He should have knowledge in a number of techniques in certain areas in order to achieve stability and safety even with slope configurations which are generally stable.  Such techniques may include:

• Removal of loose boulders (scaling)
• Shotcrete
• Rock fall protection systems (netting)
• Dowels
• Rock anchors
• Drains
• Ditches or walls to arrest falling boulders
• Careful design, control and monitoring of blasting operations to minimize damage from blast-induced accelerations

• Minimum: Bachelor Civil Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Geology, Geotechnical, Mining
• Minimum 15 years experience
• Applicants must be currently based in Dubai

GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER

This assignment is a site-based position and is offered for specialists in this field.

Proven experience in rock-cutting and rock behavior in mountainous terrains high-way construction is a must. You will act as a specialist on site and will incorporate:

 Geo-investigate the current slopes and assess the suitability of the cross section dimensions

• Assess existing methods, review and recommend approval for the contractor’s method statements of rock cutting and slopes protection to assure a safe optimum cross section.
• Monitor the rock excavation process
• Examine the cutting slopes after excavation on site and provide reports/feedback.
• Study and Design the optimum protection measures for the cutting slopes –if needed- in coordination with WSA head office.
• Other relevant duties related to the above - as required by WSA.
